James Samuel Yeaton left us suddenly on June 5, 2022. He was a loving son, uncle, brother, friend, and devoted teacher. Born on June 29, 1968, he grew up in Atkinson, NH with a close-knit family and his childhood room filled with books. He graduated from Timberlane Regional High School in 1986, and continued his education at the University of New Hampshire, Durham, receiving both Bachelor and Master Degrees. Jim comes from a family with a long lineage of teachers, and after beginning his career in Barnstead, NH, he spent the last seventeen years at Winthrop School in Melrose, MA, teaching fifth grade. Known to his students as Mr. Yeaton, Jim’s classroom was filled with science investigations, history lessons, class read alouds, trivia, and projects that allowed his students to express their creativity. Jim was a respected colleague, loyal friend, and valued member of the Winthrop School community. Quiet, reserved, and always humble, Jim also displayed a wonderful sense of humor and was a great conversationalist. One of his favorite subjects was Disney, a place he visited often. Jim never missed important dates, such as birthdays and holidays, and always arrived bearing the most thoughtful gifts for all occasions (often a Disney theme). Family and friends would describe him as kind and thoughtful with a big heart and note that he offered a constant, assuring presence that will be missed greatly.
