Piccolo Family Scholarship

Anyone who has attended the Melrose High School Senior Awards Ceremony in the past has heard the words “recipient of a Piccolo Family Scholarship” possibly 20 times during the ceremony, if not more. For at least a decade, the Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship Fund has received a generous annual donation from the Piccolo Foundation to fund multiple scholarships for that year’s graduating class.

We have Mary Piccolo to thank for that. Mary’s husband used to buy her stock instead of flowers, and she said “Thank you, dear” as she tossed them into a kitchen drawer. Over the years, the drawer got full.

For many years after her husband was deceased, those stocks helped Mary take care of her daughter, Beverly. Now that Mary and Beverly have both passed away, all those certificates are being used to make life a little better for numerous Melrose High School seniors as they continue their education.

Piccolo Scholarship Renewal: Recipients of the Piccolo Family Scholarship may be eligible to renew their award directly through the Piccolo Foundation. The Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship Fund does not administer the Piccolo renewals.
