CLASS OF 1914 SCHOLARSHIP FUND On June 24, 1914, one hundred seniors graduated from Melrose High School which was at that time in the building now referred to as the Coolidge School on Main Street next to the Baptist Church. This class held its first reunion in 1942 in a building Located on the edge of ELL Pond. Twenty-five classmates attended this first reunion.

The 40th reunion of the Class of 1914 was held at the Kernwood Restaurant in Malden, Massachusetts on June 5, 1954. The forty-five classmates who attended this reunion elected the following class officers: Morton Loring, President; Elizabeth Buttrick Walters, Secretary. It was at this meeting of the class that it was voted to establish the Class of 1914 Scholarship.

The New Ocean House in Swampscott, Massachusetts was the Location of the 45th reunion held on June 26, 1959. The committee in charge of arrangements for this reunion included Olga Newell Hyland, Isabel Lee Johnston, Marguerite Waggett Wills, and Elsie W. Wells.

At the 50th class reunion held at Bellevue Country Club on June 26, 1964, it was announced that the scholarship fund had reached $3,282. The class voted to continue their fundraising efforts. It was also voted at this reunion that Elsie W. Webls would be class Secretary, and Amy Damon Stapleton would be class Treasurer.

The Class of 1914 Scholarship Fund was established on May 17, 1965, in the Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship Fund. The income of this fund is used annually for a scholarship given to a graduating senior from Melrose High School.

Since the establishment of this scholarship, the Class of 1914 held its 55th reunion in 1969 at the Towne Lyne House in Lynnfield, and its 60th reunion on June 15, 1974, at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Kenneth Mackachfan in Gloucester, Massachusetts. There were twenty-five class members present at this 60th reunion when it was announced that the $5,000 goal for the Class of 1914 Scholarship Fund had been reached.
