Esther-Joe-Sullivan

The Esther & Joe Sullivan Memorial Scholarship

Education was important to long time Melrose residents Esther (Donovan) and Joe Sullivan.  Esther was a proud graduate of the Lincoln School, Melrose High School Class of 1959 and Salem State College, and she spent the majority of her career in the Melrose Public Schools.  After spending time at the Hoover and Winthrop Schools, her favorite position was as a sixth-grade math teacher at the Melrose Middle   School.

Joe graduated from Boston College High School then received his bachelor’s degree from Boston College and master’s degree from Boston State College. He spent his career in the Boston Public Schools, working all over the city. He worked as a high school teacher and Work Study Coordinator in Charlestown, a Community Assistant Superintendent in East Boston & Chinatown and Headmaster in Roxbury.

By establishing this fund, their children, Susan (MHS Class of 1986), Richard (MHS Class of 1987) and Paul (MHS Class of 1990), hope to help a student who plans to pursue a degree in Education.
