THE GEORGE Q. PACKARD Ill MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The George Q. Packard 111 Memorial Scholarship Fund was founded in August 1996 by friends and family at a golf outing at Mt. Hood. This event was organized by John Gately and Steven Shea, close friends of George.

George was born in 1962 in Melrose and was the son of George and Mary Packard and brother of Lisa Packard.

George attended the Winthrop School, Melrose Junior and Senior High Schools, graduating in 1980. He then attended Bridgton Academy and was graduated from Northeastern University in 1988.

As a boy, George enjoyed hockey and little league baseball but after a severe knee injury he was unable to play contact sports. This initiated his love of golf, skiing, camping, boating, mountain climbing, and travel. He was an avid Patriots, Red Sox and Bruins fan.

George always had a part-time job while in school. During high school he a Was a caddy and worked at a local fish market.

George died after a long battle with brain cancer. This scholarship is awarded in George’s memory hoping his spirit of integrity, courage and his love of life will live on in the youth of Melrose.
