REBECCA LYNN COPPER MOCKLER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Congratulations! You are the recipient of the Rebecca Lynn Copper Mockler Memorial Scholarship. Friends and relatives lovely established this scholarship in 2000 in her memory.
Becky was born in Staunton, VA March 7, 1943: In 1947, after her father’s return from World War II military service in Europe, she and her parents moved to Matawan, NJ. Becky graduated from Matawan High School in 1961 and received a B.S. in Home Economics from Simmons College, Boston, MA in 1965. She married Carl Richard Mockler, a career Coast Guard officer in 1967. In 1981 they moved to Melrose with their one-year-old daughter, Sarah.
Becky’s life in Melrose was full and meaningful. She participated in community affairs, assisted in elementary, middle and high school activities, and was active in the First Congregational Church, the Melrose Historical Society and the Fitch Home board of directors. She was also treasurer in the local branch of the American Association of University Women and secretary of her Simmons College class. For many years, Becky was a pottery teacher in the Melrose Program for Afterschool Learning (PAL). Many Melrose elementary school children enjoyed her creative classes in hand crafted pottery. Also, Becky enjoyed entertaining, gardening, decorating, sewing, knitting, quilting and embroidery.
Becky Mockler had a special exuberance for life. Her outgoing personality enabled her to develop many meaningful relationships during her fifty-seven years. She is greatly missed by her friends and relatives who created this Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship Fund in her memory.
