THE THEODORE K. CATHCART III (TODD) MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Theodore K. Cathcart III (Todd) Memorial Scholarship Fund which you have received was established by his parents, Mr. and Mrs.Theodore K. Cathcart Jr., and sisters Colleen, Susan, and Karen, all of whom are M.H.S graduates. Other family members, friends and neighbors also helped to establish the scholarship.

Todd was born on November 3, 1968 in Melrose where he attended the Franklin School and the Melrose Junior and Senior High Schools. He enjoyed playing Melrose Youth Hockey, Little League Baseball and Pop Warner Football. In high school Todd took a great interest in Occupational Education such as woodworking and automotive mechanics, and it was during this time that his

ability and love for tinkering with cars blossomed. He was also quite tenacious and resourceful, and would often create and build things for which he saw a need. One of Todd’s high school teachers noted that “his vigor and enthusiasm for life were always present making him a delightful asset in class.”

During high school Todd held part time jobs at McDonald’s and the Churchill Corp. His summers were spent working at Shawtown Campground in Ossipee, N.H. where the Cathcart family camped for 20 years. After graduating from Melrose High School in 1987, Todd went to work for the family business, Lowell Builders’ Supply, Inc., in a managerial position with the expectation that he would someday take over the business.

In 1989 Todd moved to Hampton, N.H. where he enjoyed spending time with his friends at Hampton Beach. Other interests included motorcycle riding, water and snow skiing.

Todd died on October 28, 1991 as a result of a motorcycle accident. A note received after his death from a friend of the family perhaps best describes how he will be remembered by his family and friends: “A very wonderful thing happens when I think about Todd. I always start smiling, and quite often laugh out loud and shake my head. Such a great person and what fun we all had! I will always remember Todd this way, and it makes sense because that’s the way he was, and that’s the way it will be with me, always.”

This scholarship is awarded in Todd’s memory hoping that his zest for life, and living it to the fullest will be carried on by the youth of Melrose.

THE MELROSE HIGH SCHOOL PERMANENT SCHOLARSHIP FUND congratulates you upon receiving this memorial scholarship. The founders of this scholarship will always be interested in your plans and progress.
