John Philip Sousa Award & Scholarship

This scholarship is presented by the Melrose Bandaiders alongside the John Philip Sousa Award and the recipient is determined by the Melrose Band Director and band staff. The John Philip Sousa Award is the pinnacle of achievement in a high school band program and a nationally recognized honor presented to high school band students across the United States. Introduced in 1955 to honor the top student in the high school concert band, the award recognizes superior musicianship and outstanding dedication. This award honors John Philip Sousa’s legacy by recognizing students who exemplify the highest standards of musical achievement.

Graduation from high school is the first step out of Melrose and into the world. This is a significant event in your life, and the people who support the Scholarship Fund are happy to join with the faculty of Melrose High School and the community at large in wishing you well.

The sponsor of this scholarship is interested in knowing your plans for the future and would appreciate hearing from you. They enjoy receiving a thank you from the scholarship recipients with some general background, such as what school you are attending next year, activities you pursued at Melrose High School, and what you plan to study.
