Planned Giving

Gift Planning

  • Support a cause that’s important to you with a planned gift
  • Put your assets to work with tax-efficient charitable strategies
  • Establishing a lasting legacy to be remembered

An excellent way to support the Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship Fund’s mission is to leave a gift in your will, living trust or with a codicil.

Bequests

Are you looking for a way to make a gift to help further our mission? A bequest is a gift made through your will or trust.  It is one of the most popular and flexible ways that you can support our cause.

Benefit of making a bequest:

  • You leave a lasting legacy to be remembered
  • You lessen the burden of taxes on your family
  • You may receive estate tax savings

How do I make a bequest?

A bequest is one of the easiest gifts to make.  With the help of an advisor, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift be made to family, friends or to the Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship Fund.

A bequest can be made in several ways:

  1. You can gift a specific dollar or asset
  2. You can gift a percentage of your estate
  3. You can gift from the balance of your estate
  4. You can make a beneficiary designation of certain assets

If you are considering a bequest but would like to ensure your bequest will be used for a specific purpose, please let me know.  We would be happy to work with you to help identify ways to give and meet your charitable objectives.

If you are making a restricted bequest, we recommend that your attorney include the following provisions to give Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship Fund flexibility should it no longer be possible to use your gift as you originally intended:

If, in the judgement of the Board of Directors of the Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship Foundation, it shall become impossible for the Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship may use the income and principal of this gift for such purpose or purposes as the Board determines is most closely related to the restricted purpose of my bequest.

Beneficiary Designation

A beneficiary designation gift is a simple way to make a gift to support our cause.  You can designate our organization as a beneficiary of retirement, investment or bank account or your life insurance policy.

Benefits of a beneficiary designation gift:

  • Support the cause you care about
  • Continue to use your account as long as you need to
  • Simplify your panning and avoid expensive legal fees
  • Reduce the burden of taxes on your family
  • Receive an estate tax charitable deduction

How a beneficiary designation gift works:

  1. To make your gift, contact the person who helps with your account or insurance policy, such as your broker, banker or insurance agent.
  2. Ask them to send you a new beneficiary designation form.
  3. Complete the form, sign it and mail it back to your broker, banker or agent.
  4. When you pass away, your account or insurance policy will be paid to the Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship Fund.

Please contact us if you have any questions about how to make bequests to the Melrose High School Permanent Scholarship Fund or to request any additional information that might be helpful to you and your attorney as you consider making a bequest to us.

We would like to thank you and recognize you for your gift.
